Individual Therapy

“It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.”
~EE Cummings

Individual therapy is a collaborative process between therapist and patient that aims to facilitate change and improve quality of life.  Therapy can help people confront barriers that interfere with emotional and mental well-being by decreasing feelings of depression, isolation, anxiety, fear and being stuck, and it can also increase positive feelings such as compassion, self esteem, love, courage, and peace.  Many people find they enjoy the therapeutic journey of becoming more self-aware, and they may pursue ongoing psychotherapy as a means of self-growth.

In our initial assessment we will focus on what has brought you into this process by gathering information about your background/history and details of your current experience and symptoms.  Together we will set the goals for treatment.  Therapy is an ever evolving, fluid process.  There are many theories and techniques and it certainly isn’t one size fits all!

I see therapy as a relationship where communication skills are both taught and experienced.  I will offer information, considerations and suggestions; what works we use, what doesn’t we throw out.  This involves a willingness to be vulnerable on your part and providing a safe, secure environment on mine.

If you have any questions about the individual therapy process, please feel free to contact me.  I provide a complimentary 15 minute phone consultation to answer questions and set an initial assessment appointment.
